Umana (Mario) is born in Boston.

The son of Italian immigrants, Mario Umana graduates from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and marries Anne Nigro in 1946. He serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1949-51) and the Massachusetts Senate (1953-58 and 1961-91), and is appointed a Boston Municipal Court judge in 1991. Umana dies on April 27, 2005, and is buried in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Roslindale.
